The subway is a very good example of an intermodal project and its implementation has been very successful, said the minister of Transport, information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski during today’s inspection of the works at Medicine Academy station. He pointed out that over half of the first stage of the construction of the third line (from Little City Theatre 'Off the Channel' to Gorna Banya residential area) has already been completed and by the end of 2019, 43 subway stations and almost 48 km of lines will be constructed.

“I appeal to the citizens in the capital to understand the benefits of the project and to reduce the usage of vehicles – that is in favor both of their safety and the environment. I am convinced that the next cohesion framework will provide funds to finance the subway project and we will continue the development of the network”, announced Minister Moskovski. At present the repaid funds under OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure 2014-2020 for the third line amount to 330 million levs out of a total of 800 million.

“During the forthcoming negotiations on EU budget framework, member states shall agree on maintaining the cohesion policy as a significant part of the financing of large transport projects is realized through the Cohesion Fund and the European Regional Development Fund”, noted Ivaylo Moskovski. He added that the Bulgarian state would insist on not changing the amount of financing for the transport sector after 2020.

The major of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, the minister of Environment and Waters Neno Dimov, the Executive director of Metropolitan EAD Stoyan Bratoev and representatives of the Managing Authority of OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure, participated in the inspection.
