Bulgaria PM Boyko Borisov and Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski opened sunday factory for subway’s movable composition repair in Sofia

There are 31 km metro line with 27 subway stations and Sofia now has modern facility that will serve them. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Metropoliten EAD CEO Stoyan Bratoev officially opened the extended section of Obelya depot and a factory for repair of the movable composition of Sofia subway.

“This is another good joint project with the Sofia Minicipality and Metropolitan EAD funded by Operational Program Transport”said minister Moskovski during the event. After the factory is set into operation the number of the underground employees will increase by some 400 people.

The site is part of Stage II for a project for extension of the subway, included in the OP Transport. Stage ІІ of the project includes overall construction of the following two sections: Lot 1 - section from Line 2 Obelya quarter - Nadezhda quarter - Nadezhda road junction, length of 4.2 km, 4 metro station and a buffer parking area beneath Lomsko Chausse Blvd.; Lot 2 - section from Line 1 Mladost 1 quarter 1 - Mladost 3 - Tsarigradsko Chausse Blvd. (part of the Mladost-Drouzhba-Airport route), length of 2.5 km., 2 metro stations and a big buffer parking area beneath Tsarigradsko Chausse Blvd.

The extension of the Sofia Metro which includes the construction of two sections from the Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd to Sofia International Airport already started and from the Mladost 1 quarter to Business Park Sofia. The Sofia Metro Phase III project is approved for funding by the European Commission.
